Congratulations! The World’s Largest Planetarium Is Settled in Shanghai!Shanghai Zhuo’ou Is Taking You to Enjoy the Stars!

2019-02-21

Who says it’s impossible for people to look up at the starlit sky who live in cities constructed with reinforced concrete? Now it’s no longer a dream in Shanghai to walk into a world’s top planetarium and admire the bright stars. With the development of science and technology, the mystery of the universe is being unveiled. A planetarium is an important place to popularize astronomical knowledge, the completion of which is of great social education significance. Shanghai planetarium, a modernized astronomical venue which incorporates popular science education, exhibition, observation, research, tourism and leisure, “connecting people and the universe”, is such a place as, with just one glance, you produce a desire to walk in and explore!

It is reported that at present, there are more than 4000 astronomical venues in the world, whereas in China, there is only a large one in Beijing. None of the rest can be called a real planetarium. Here, however, comes the good news, that Shanghai Planetarium under construction is going to change this awkward situation.

The reason to choose Lingang New City as the project site is that there is less light pollution and it’s best positioned for astronomical observation. As the first set up in Shanghai and the second in China, Shanghai Planetarium is the last hurrah of the blueprint of "Three Museums in One", following Shanghai Museum of Natural History and Shanghai Science and Technology Museum. It becomes a new landmark of Lingang New City where a new page has been turned as a result for the science and technology museums. The planetarium is only 700 meters away from Dishuihu Station of Shanghai Rail Transit Line 1. In the future, you only need to take a subway for a star-gazing tour.

The project was designed by a prestigious US firm known as Ennead Architects, in collaboration with Shanghai Xian Dai Architectural Design (Group) Co., Ltd.. Thomas Wong, one of Ennead's partners, works as the lead architect. The whole modelling is very chic, with the idea of "astronomy" permeated from outside in. The planetarium is composed of three parts - an inverted dome, a circular opening skylight and a ball screen cinema, respectively representing the Sun, the Earth and the Moon.

Our company, Shanghai Zhuo’ou, short for Shanghai Zhuo’ou Construction and Decoration Engineering Co., Ltd, undertakes the exterior decoration with GRC, a material consistent with the“Green Initiative”. Those GRC products, embedded in the exterior wall to form many track lines, perfectly outlines the satellite's motion trail. The appearance of Shanghai Planetarium presents a complex and wonderful curve, giving a smooth visual effect and making people feel as if in space. The whole building looks futuristic beyond the boundaries of time and space. Green technology is perfectly integrated with architecture.

By providing quality products and installation work, Shanghai Zhuo’ou is helping to complete an excellent project.

How excited we are by the thought of being able to watch the stars at the world's largest planetarium in 2021!
