World Expo 2015 will be held in Milan, Italy, with the theme of "Feeding the Planet: Energy for life". The imaginative Italians begin to cast their eyes at the would-be buildings. They are going to build the whole exhibition area with a new type of cement which can directly absorb air pollutants, such as to make the Expo buildings a green, eco-friendly model.
It is reported that the Italian pavilion for World Expo 2015 will be designed around the concept of urban forest. The whole building, covered with a layer of special material used to purify the air around, will spontaneously generate electricity. The material applied by the designer of the building, Nemesi&Partners, is mainly made of photovoltaic cement, supplemented by concrete mixed with titanium dioxide. Building materials exposed to ultraviolet light, a chemical reaction will be caused between titanium dioxide and nitrogen dioxide, converting the pollutant into a salt substance which can be easily washed away. The building is expected to open to the public in next May. If you are lucky enough to travel to Milan next year, you can go to the Expo site to experience the scene.
